Instructor Profile - Ewen Robertson

Ewen is a retired Chartered Building Surveyor who has fished in both fresh and salt-water for as long as he can remember.

He is a fully qualified Spey Casting Instructor, and a Level 2 Angling Coach, who has the required Child Protection clearance as well as a current First Aid Certificate; being safety conscious, he even has the relevant St John Ambulance app on his ‘phone! Risk assessments are routinely carried out, whether formally or not.

Instruction is often given on the Beauly Angling Club’s tidal water, which provides both left and right bank casting opportunities, however Grass Casting is also used as a means of gaining the required level of proficiency from both sides. A range of other rivers and lochs are also used, some being quite far-afield. The emphasis is initially on casting, rather than on catching, which can come later. Client numbers are normally restricted to one or two at a time, in order that they can progress more quickly. He is also an innovative Fly Tyer, with a considerable interest in new materials and techniques.

Ewen has full outfits available for use. The books he currently recommends and stocks, are ‘Flycasting Skills for Beginner and Expert’, and ‘Matching the Hatch’; essential reading/reference books for the committed Trout & Salmon Angler. He stocks TickCards, for efficient Tick removal. Stalking is also an interest, for which he makes a wide range of Deer Stalkers Pods.

Please get in touch if you want to discuss your requirements with him, or simply to have his current Instructor Information Pack emailed to you.
